| History of Christ the King Lutheran Church |
|
Christ the King was a mission start of the former LCA, organized in 1981, and developed and led by Pastor Steve Nelson (1981-2004), then Pastor Doug Bisbee (2004-2009). The first facility was built in 1985 with an addition in 1996. In 1994, a satellite ministry was started in the village of Sherwood (8 miles SE). Their first facility was completed in 2002. We are currently working on an addition at the Sherwood location. Senior Pastor Bill Schroeder, Associate Pastor Tim Krick, our Pastoral Intern and our staff of 12 serve a growing congregation in two locations surround by residential and business growth in a rural and suburban area. We also support Pastor Brian & Kristen Konkol, missionaries in South Africa. Through our tithing of both church accounts, general and capital, we also support many agencies throughout the Fox Valley, synod, and ELCA. Our structure is one congregation in two locations, with a unified budget, church council, and staff. We see ourselves as a "permission giving" church, which values creative ideas and empowering the formation of small groups. There are no committees to seek "permission from" and no micro managing by our church council. As long as the ideas and ministries fall within our mission and vision as a congregation, they are free to prayerfully try new ideas. Furthermore, it is okay if ideas sometimes go nowhere. Let's tweak it and try again! Some of the challenges facing Christ the King are:
