Out With the Old, In With the New

 At the first meeting of the Doughnut Whole Gang in September 2019, Todd Wulf asked, “this summer, I noticed that the lights on CTK’s sign are not working.  Could we use our Wholey Dough weekly offering to pay for repairs?”  Todd asked Jim Weyers if he could repair it, while Todd cleaned the background, and repainted the black letters.  At our next meeting Todd commented “this sign is over 20 years old and is showing its age.  Could we check if we could raise funds for a new electronic one like Joe’s Power Center just installed down the block?”

The next Sunday, I asked Pastor Nate if the Doughnut Whole Gang could get the congregation involved in raising funds for a new electronic digital sign.  He said it sounded like a great idea to spread the Good News on Washington Avenue, as well as to get people to come and see who we are, and what we are up to.

During that week, Kelsey from Creative Sign came in and gave us a quote on an electronic digital sign.  Pastor Nate called and asked if I had asked her to stop.  I had not.  At our next Doughnut Whole Gang meeting I reported what had happened, and Paul Girod proclaimed, “It’s a sign from God!”  We decided to dedicate our annual Thrivent Action Team brat fry at the CTK Craft Sale in October to the It’s a Sign from God fund.

Since then, there have been many individual offerings, a Thrivent Action Team SERRV Nativity set sale, a SERRV online trunk sale, Thrivent Choice Dollars donations, two more Thrivent Action Team brat fries, a Thrivent Action Team SERRV Just Coffee for a Sign sale, as well as a few donations from Doughnut Whole Gang Wholey Dough.

In addition, in donating sweat equity, Jim Weyers and Pahl Ploetz have volunteered many hours getting all the electrical connections completed.  Mike Meyer has also been a great help in getting that done, and Terry Driscoll, Paul Gjerald, as well as Alan Gjerald spent time chopping and sawing roots, as well as shoveling to get the area ready for electrical conduit boring.

CTK’s new Watchfire electronic digital sign was installed on Monday, August 3rd by Creative Sign as low bidder, and yes, Kelsey did finally close the sale after seven years!
