This coming Sunday, our church will be filled with joy, wonder, a little chaos, and the unmistakable magic of the Christmas season as our Sunday School children present their Christmas pageant, A Shepherd’s Story.
There is something deeply moving about hearing the story of our Lord and Savior’s birth told through the voices of children. Their words are sincere, their songs are joyful, and their hearts are full. When they sing of angels, shepherds, and the newborn King, we are reminded of the simple and powerful truth of Christmas, that God came to us in humility, love, and light.
One of the most beautiful truths of the Christmas story is who God chose to tell first. God did not announce the birth of our Savior to kings or crowds, but to humble shepherds watching their flocks by night. Ordinary people, living simple lives, were invited to be the first to see our humble King.
In A Shepherd’s Story, our children remind us of this powerful message, that God meets us right where we are. Just as the shepherds hurried to the manger with awe and wonder, our youngest lead us back to that holy night, inviting us to kneel once again before Jesus. Their voices echo the angels’ good news of great joy, reminding us that Christ came for all, that humility, faith, and joy are at the heart of the Christmas miracle.
Over the past eight weeks, our children have been hard at work preparing for this special moment. They’ve learned eight brand-new songs, practiced their lines, and grown together in confidence and faith. Week after week, their excitement has only grown as they realized they would soon be sharing the story of Jesus with the entire congregation. Their dedication, enthusiasm, and joy have been a gift to witness.
A Shepherd’s Story invites us to experience the miracle of Christ’s birth through fresh eyes, the eyes of those who remind us how to approach the manger with wonder and awe. In a season that can feel busy and noisy, the voices of our youngest call us back to what truly matters, God’s love made known to the world.
We invite everyone to come, listen, and be blessed. Let the music, the message, and the smiles of our children fill your heart with hope. This Sunday promises to be a beautiful celebration of faith, family, and the magic of Christmas.
Your Sibling In Christ,
Susie Selle
