This summer, children are invited to discover what it means to love boldly, help generously, and welcome others with open hearts at our upcoming “Who Is My Neighbor?” Vacation Bible School. At the center of this year’s theme is the Parable of the Good Samaritan from Luke 10:25–37, where Jesus teaches that being a neighbor is not about where someone lives, what they look like, or whether they are just like us. A true neighbor is the one who shows mercy, crosses boundaries, and chooses compassion in action. That message hits especially close to home for our community.
Each year, three area churches—Christ the King, Prince of Peace, and Our Saviour’s Lutheran—come together to plan and implement this special program. Their partnership is a beautiful example of the very lesson children will explore throughout the week: we are better when we work together, learn from one another, and celebrate the gifts each person brings. Throughout VBS, children will enjoy snacks, games, crafts, STEM activities, and stories from people around the world. These experiences will help kids see that God’s love reaches across cultures, languages, traditions, and differences—and that every person is worthy of kindness, dignity, and care.
“Who Is My Neighbor?” is open to children ages 4 through 6th grade. VBS will be held at Our Saviour’s Lutheran in Appleton from August 2–5, 5:00–7:30 PM. A free dinner will be served each evening from 5:00–5:30 PM, with programming beginning at 5:30 PM. Families are encouraged to register early. Children signed up before July 15 will receive a free T-shirt! Come be part of a week filled with faith, friendship, fun, and meaningful conversations about what it means to be a neighbor. Together, we will learn how to follow Jesus’ call to “go and do likewise”—showing love not only to the people we know, but to everyone God places in our path.
