At our annual meeting in January, questions were raised about support for the ELCA.
Here is a deeper dive, in hopes of bringing clarity to our relationship with the ELCA.
Christ the King is part of the East Central Wisconsin Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran
Church of America. We support its mission and receive support from the greater church.
How is the ECLA a partner in engaging Christ’s mission?
Connects Congregations Across the Region: By sharing resources and ideas, support and celebration.
Supports Leaders & Congregations: with resources guidance and encouragement
Provides Resources, Learning and Formation: Guiding transition and call processes, Providing staffing resources.
Educational and Leadership Opportunities like Lay School of Ministry
Partners with other Ministries beyond the Local Church
Crossways Campus Ministries, Fox Valley Lutheran Homes and Wisconsin Council of Churches are examples
Engage in Global Mission
Addressing World Hunger, Lutheran Disaster Response and Advocating and Accompanying Displaced Migrants
throughout the World AMMPARO
Encourage Shared Ministry & Stewardship throughout the ELCA worldwide
Without a Synod;
Each Congregation would operate more or less on its own- missing the strength that comes from shared wisdom, resources, and support.
Pastors and Leaders would have less connection to peers for encouragement, accountability, and learning.
The church’s mission- growing disciples, serving neighbors, advocating for justice would be more fragmented.
This is just a small fraction of the leadership support and resources our synod supplies congregations. Our church, CtK was supported financially and guided into ministry under the wings of the ECSW of the ELCA 45 years ago. With our gifts and support we help continue to grow the ministries of the greater ELCA church and partake in the resources available to us to help guide our ministries and Christ’s mission in our world.
